About The Position

Come join a team of dedicated and compassionate staff at a 16-bed state-of-the-art Secure Residential Facility in Essex, Vermont. The Supervising Chef manages, plans, and coordinates the provision of food for the residents of RVTR. He/she is responsible for developing and executing the menu. Participates in the training of employees in dietetics and food service procedures. Prepares reports related to food costs, inventories, number of meals served and waste. Supervises the ordering and storage of supplies for food service. Will develop special programs for residents that have special needs. Ensures that proper sanitation standards are maintained. Hires, supervises and evaluates subordinate staff.  Mission:The River Valley Therapeutic Residence (RVTR) aims to improve the health and well-being of Vermont's most vulnerable populations while focusing on psychiatric rehabilitation services and psychosocial treatment delivered in a recovery oriented, trauma informed, person-centered, holistic environment. The program offers a safe space to focus on recovery and community integration for those individuals no longer needing hospital level of care, but who are not yet ready to transition back to the community. Incumbents may be required to work at times other than normal hours. Food service presents a never ending series of production deadlines and staggered work schedules for subordinate staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, food service, home economics, dietetics, or a closely related field AND two (2) years or more of experience in a large scale food service operation INCLUDING one (1) year or more of supervisory responsibilities.
  • Associate's degree in nutrition, food service, home economics, dietetics, or a closely related field AND four (4) years or more of experience in a large scale food service operation INCLUDING two (2) years or more of supervisory responsibilities.
  • Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific knowledge of food safety standards.
  • Working knowledge of food service operations including patient food services, and/or retail food operations.
  • Knowledge of food production, presentation and delivery processes.
  • Knowledge of current industry trends and ability to apply them to different dining environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership, employee, customer and public skills.
  • Demonstrated experience developing capital and operations budgeting, negotiating, and conducting financial analysis.
