About The Position

The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is seeking an organized, professional, and resultsoriented individual to serve as a Supervising Administrative Law Judge. This position will direct subordinate staffin conducting hearings and preparing decisions on Unemployment Insurance appeals cases. Responsibilitiesinclude reviewing completed cases for adherence to applicable state and federal statutes, preparing andevaluating case files for review by the U.S. Department of Labor, and serving as a liaison to internal and externalparties in matters regarding appeals cases. This position provides a great opportunity for someone who has astrong knowledge of administrative hearings and unemployment insurance law and is dedicated to improvingpolicies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and timeliness and qualitystandards. Requirements

• Requires graduation from a recognized law school
• Requires possession of a valid license to practice law in Illinois
• Requires three (3) years of professional experience in the practice of law and participation in judicial oradministrative hearings

Nice To Haves

• Ten (10) years of trial or hearing experience, applying legal rulings and principles to fact situations found within the cases
• Two (2) years of experience supervising legal staff, including providing training and evaluating staffperformance
• Experience drafting complex and technical legal documents in simple language
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, including Outlook, Word and Excel
• Experience applying provisions of Unemployment Insurance law to cases
• Experience in administrative law
• Experience analyzing financial information for legal cases

Responsibilities

• Under general direction, serves as a Supervising Administrative Law Judge for the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES)
• Serves as full line supervisor
• Provides technical assistance to the Appeals Manager in the development and revision of policies, rules and regulations as they apply to appeals cases
• Prepares and evaluates case files for review by external agencies and/or organizations including but not limited to the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL)
• Serves as a liaison to internal and external groups in matters related to appeals cases
• Keeps abreast of new developments in applicable laws, rules, regulations and guidelines as they apply to appeals, including but not limited to timeliness and quality standards
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
