About the position

The Superintendent supervises site-based construction operations for assigned projects. He shares responsibility with the rest of the project team for the on-time, satisfactory completion of the project and for keeping costs at or under budget. Responsibilities include participating in periodic project review meetings if asked by the Project Manager, ensuring on-budget implementation of assigned projects, and immediately identifying, quantifying, recording, and reporting all changes in the scope of the project. The Superintendent is also responsible for on-time completion of assigned projects, ensuring all safety requirements and quality standards are met, and understanding the detailed project schedule to monitor progress daily. Communication with field employees and the Project Manager regarding project progress and issues is essential, as well as managing the labor pool assigned to the project within budget. The role includes providing day-to-day supervision of the quality of work, ongoing training to crew members, and ensuring accurate submission of required field reports. The Superintendent works closely with the Operations Manager and Project Manager to plan material delivery and manage job site inventory, while also maintaining safety standards and a clean worksite.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise site-based construction operations for assigned projects.
  • Participate in periodic project review meetings if asked by the Project Manager.
  • Ensure on-budget implementation of assigned projects.
  • Identify, quantify, record, and report all changes in the scope of the project.
  • Ensure on-time completion of assigned projects with all safety requirements and quality standards met.
  • Monitor project progress against the detailed project schedule.
  • Communicate daily with field employees and the Project Manager regarding project progress and issues.
  • Manage the labor pool assigned to the project at or under budget.
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of the quality of work of crew members.
  • Provide ongoing training to crew members as required.
  • Ensure accurate submission of required field reports by established deadlines.
  • Work with the Operations Manager on the deployment of field labor.
  • Plan amounts and delivery dates of materials for the project with the Project Manager and Operations Manager.
  • Request project materials on an as-needed basis with at least 48 hours advance notice.
  • Monitor equipment use at job sites and inform the Operations Manager of retrieval needs.
  • Manage job site material amounts to minimize surplus without disrupting project progress.
  • Maintain job site inventory in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Inspect equipment assigned to the job site and reject defective equipment.
  • Act as the first point of contact for the owner and subcontractors.
  • Ensure safe implementation of all project activities and compliance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe worksite.
  • Implement and manage required job-site safety program and conduct weekly toolbox talks.
  • Complete accident reports immediately, completely, and accurately.
  • Address and manage punch list items and quality issues effectively.
  • Maintain friendly, cooperative relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, and owners.
  • Supervise apprentices and assign tasks to assist them in learning the trade.

Requirements

  • High school certificate.
  • 3 years of experience in commercial contracting project supervision.
  • 5 years of construction field experience.
  • Willingness to 'roll up his sleeves' and do what is necessary to get the job done.
  • Honesty, integrity, and a strong desire to succeed.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to deal tactfully in human issues with colleagues.
  • Ability to create and maintain cooperative team-building relationships.
  • Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in others and shift responsibilities accordingly.
