About The Position

VMG Mechanical, a Modigent company and a trusted leader in commercial plumbing, is seeking an experienced Plumbing Superintendent to lead ground-up commercial plumbing projects from start to finish. Reporting directly to the General Superintendent, you will manage teams of foremen and plumbers, oversee on-site operations, ensure exceptional quality and safety, and drive profitable, on-time delivery for clients in commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors. This role requires proven expertise in ground-up new construction plumbing, strong leadership, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and client relationships.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in commercial plumbing, with a strong emphasis on ground-up new construction (e.g., full system installations, underground utilities, rough-in/top-out, fixture setting in commercial buildings).
  • Proven track record leading plumbing teams on large-scale commercial projects (government, municipal, healthcare, or institutional experience a plus).
  • Excellent leadership, written/verbal communication, and multitasking skills; self-motivated with strong follow-through and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, performing takeoffs, project scheduling, and managing subcontractors.
  • In-depth knowledge of plumbing codes (e.g., IPC/Florida Building Code), safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Professional appearance, punctuality, reliability, and ability to work in physically demanding environments.
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage foremen, plumbers, and subcontractors on ground-up commercial plumbing projects, ensuring alignment with company goals, budgets, and timelines.
  • Develop proactive solutions to prevent issues; conduct thorough material takeoffs, site surveys, and detailed planning.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily on-site activities, including crew scheduling, material control, equipment rentals, and field supervision.
  • Review projects with leadership post-procurement; interpret blueprints, coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, and owners for seamless execution.
  • Ensure timely procurement, coordinate production scheduling with the shop, and manage material deliveries.
  • Oversee job start-ups, inspections, testing, and commissioning; verify complete documentation (e.g., start-up sheets, warranties).
  • Maintain and exceed industry standards for commercial plumbing installations in ground-up construction.
  • Perform regular quality assurance checks, conduct site walks with clients, and analyze work to minimize callbacks or warranty issues.
  • Proactively build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, subcontractors, and the broader construction team through clear, collaborative communication.
  • Strictly enforce company, project-specific, and OSHA safety requirements; ensure all personnel wear required PPE at all times.
  • Document incidents, recommend and implement corrective actions, and coordinate with safety officers for regular job site visits and inspections.
  • Promote a zero-incident culture on fast-paced commercial construction sites.
  • Track employee performance and progress, nominate team members for promotions or incentives, and assist with interviewing and hiring decisions.
  • Approve and submit accurate weekly time records; ensure proper documentation of all work activities and progress.
