About The Position

The Superintendent of Recreation is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the Tulsa County Park recreation department under the direction of the Parks Director. This role involves developing recreational programs, managing budgets, overseeing staff, and ensuring effective communication and coordination with various stakeholders to enhance recreational services and facilities.

Requirements

• Education equivalent to a BA or BS from an accredited college or university, preferably in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field.
• Seven years of satisfactory, full-time paid employment in recreational services or closely related work, including five years of supervisory experience.
• Valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
• First Aid and CPR certification within six months of employment (preferred).
• Successful completion of Tulsa County Defensive Driving Course within three months of employment.

• Experience in public recreation administration.
• Knowledge of facilities and equipment needed for recreation programs.
• Ability to effectively communicate with community groups and the public.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a member of the Parks Administration Team, reporting on recreation department items that impact the Parks system.
• Develop and implement programs and events aligned with the Tulsa County Parks Strategic Plan.
• Oversee staff within the recreation department, including assigning duties and evaluating performance.
• Manage the Recreation Department budget and coordinate accounting procedures with the Parks Business Manager.
• Direct and oversee the scheduling of recreation centers, athletic fields, and aquatic amenities.
• Communicate and coordinate with the Parks Communication Manager and Parks Operation Superintendent on programs and events.
• Investigate and resolve requests, suggestions, and complaints regarding recreational services or facilities.
• Familiarize with and adhere to recreation policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
