About The Position

The Village of New Knoxville is seeking applicants for the position of Superintendent of Electric. The superintendent, under the administrative direction of the Utilities Superintendent, plans, develops and supervises the operation of the village’s electric distribution system and substation. This position also has responsibility over the connectivity to the different power sources and performs required testing, monitoring and repair of the electric distribution system. The superintendent will attend workshops and seminars related to duties performed, assist village electric crews in emergency situations, and perform other duties as assigned by their supervisor. Qualified applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent; have five years of experience as a lineworker; possess a valid Ohio driver’s license; be able to operate a dump truck, front-end loader, backhoe, pick-up truck, tractor, tow motor, snow plow, forklift, digger derrick truck, trencher, aerial bucket truck, computer, smart phone and motor vehicle two-way radio; and be able to traverse various ground conditions. Applicants who hold a commercial driver’s license with a Class B endorsement are preferred. Additionally, the successful applicant should have a thorough knowledge and skill in use of standard and current methods, materials and tools used in electrical construction and maintenance work; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; considerable knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations; working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing, copy/fax machine, calculator and telephone; ability to meet and interact with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations; ability to maintain accurate record keeping, organization and maintenance of village files; ability to prepare and understand daily, periodic and specific reports; and the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to carry out those instructions/projects to completion. Applicants should be skilled in researching, compiling and summarizing information for village projects and budgets, as well as in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors and the public. Work for this position is performed in multiple environments and involves sitting, standing and performing physical tasks for extended periods of time. Work activities include walking, bending, reaching and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds, and on occasion lifting of weights exceeding 50 pounds.
