About The Position

The Superintendent - MEP Systems is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing building work with an emphasis on mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, low voltage and plumbing systems.  He/She will deliver completed buildings to Project Ownership – on schedule, meeting or exceeding safety and quality standards and established budgets.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in construction, Architectural, Mechanical, and/or Electrical Engineering or 10 years trade experience
  • Minimum 8 years of construction experience with two of those years having supervisory experience, preferably with a Mechanical or Electrical Contractor
  • Experience with complex new build projects with emphasis on hospitality venues
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office suite

Responsibilities

  • Monitor installation, testing, and commissioning of MEP systems to ensure compliance with design specifications, building codes and quality standards.
  • Manage subcontractors, vendors, and on-site teams to maintain productivity and schedule adherence.
  • After turnover, ensure all warranty work is being handled effectively by responsible subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Evaluate alternate methods of construction using “value engineering” for cost efficiency and quality and make such recommendations to the PM.
  • Stay up-to-date on the basic concepts and methods used by subcontractors, including plumbing, electrical and HVAC including local interpretations of the Building Code.
  • Lead, coordinate, direct and schedule the work of subcontractors to minimize conflicts and rework.
  • Motivate subcontractors and others to top performance.
  • Check vendors’ invoices and authorize payments of subcontractors and material suppliers by the accounting department in accordance with Company policies. Lead fellow employees by example.
  • Establish and enforce safety measures by being familiar with OSHA standards and regulations.
  • Perform weekly safety meetings with staff and subs and document attendance and material covered.
  • Inspect and verify quantity and quality of all materials and supplies.
  • Act as liaison between Owner and others as directed.
  • Solve problems within assigned authority and when necessary, work with other employees to accomplish needed tasks.
  • Make quick, accurate decisions when necessary and take responsibility for decisions.
  • Produce and update weekly production reports, time cards and other records.
  • Design and establish checklists for inspection, quality control and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain a high degree of integrity and loyalty toward the company and the builder.
  • Maintain a good operating relationship with subcontractors, employees, material suppliers, inspectors, management, company personnel and the general public.
