About The Position

The Superintendent/Manager leads the mechanic department to ensure the timely and effective repair, maintenance, and optimization of all cutting and sewing equipment. This role is responsible for minimizing downtime, maintaining equipment reliability, and ensuring that parts and supplies are adequately stocked to support uninterrupted production. The Superintendent/Manager manages the department through training, communication, and organization, while driving performance toward the facility’s key performance indicators (KPIs). The position provides hands-on technical support and supervision to uphold operational excellence, quality standards, and safety across the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 10 years working in a manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years in a management position.
  • Ongoing training in industrial equipment maintenance and technologies is required.
  • Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Observe safety and security procedures, determine appropriate action beyond guidelines, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit most of the day, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Also, must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Should be prepared to work in a noisy manufacturing area with heavy traffic and floor vibrations.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably proficient and knowledgeable in cutting and sewing machines, including but not limited to:
  • Cutting Equipment: Lectra, Gerber, Yi systems
  • Sewing Equipment: Single & multi-needle lockstitch, chain stitch, bar-tack, buttonhole, felling machines, irons
  • Bilingual in Creole and/or Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise sewing and cutting room mechanics and oversee preventive maintenance and repair programs.
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures to maintain equipment in optimal condition.
  • Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to ensure equipment installation and improvements are completed effectively.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized maintenance workshop.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Manufacturing to set repair and maintenance priorities.
  • Assign and monitor mechanic tasks to ensure quality and timely completion.
  • Ensure mechanics meet set KPIs and departmental goals, focusing on elevating the service quality of the department.
  • Ensure safety and quality standards are met in all maintenance work.
  • Submit requisitions for new or replacement parts, supplies, and tools.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
