About The Position

The Superintendent leads field teams, coordinates subcontractors and self-perform crews, and works closely with project management, clients, and facility staff to deliver successful outcomes with minimal disruption to ongoing healthcare operations.

Requirements

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture, or equivalent field experience (minimum 4 years as an Assistant Superintendent).
  • Extensive field construction experience in healthcare or hospital projects at a supervisory level.
  • Current Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Strong working knowledge of all trades; experience as a foreman, journeyman, or project engineer preferred.
  • Understanding of OSHA laws, Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA), and healthcare life safety standards.
  • Skilled in scheduling, planning, expediting, and cost control.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and a commitment to patient and staff safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in active or occupied healthcare environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all essential Assistant Superintendent and Project Engineer responsibilities as required.
  • Attend and actively participate in safety training programs; enforce all company and OSHA safety procedures, as well as ICRA and ILSM (Interim Life Safety Measures) standards.
  • Verify subcontractor certificates of insurance and ensure all teams adhere to healthcare safety and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare, maintain, and manage the project CPM schedule; coordinate with project management and hospital representatives to plan phased work.
  • Build and maintain trust with Owners, Architects, and hospital facilities teams through proactive communication and professionalism.
  • Recruit, train, direct, and coordinate field staff and subcontractors, including self-perform crews.
  • Assure quality control and compliance with healthcare construction standards; set and maintain clear expectations for craftsmanship and infection prevention.
  • Order and manage materials and tools, planning ahead to avoid delays or last-minute purchases.
  • Prepare daily reports, time sheets, work orders, and approve invoices as required.
  • Lead the punch list process, ensuring all items are completed and documented promptly.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and subcontractor submittals for accuracy and constructability.
  • Lead pre-construction and regular coordination meetings with subcontractors, Owner, and design teams.
  • Oversee system start-up, testing, and final turnover to Owner; ensure compliance with healthcare commissioning standards.
  • Document close-out procedures, warranty information, and Owner acceptance in a timely manner.
  • Travel as required by project needs and management.
  • May oversee multiple healthcare projects across a regional area.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
