About The Position

Our team supports a combined fleet of ships sailing to Alaska each summer, operating lodges and hotels, luxury motor coaches and the largest domed rail cars in the world. We’re looking for an amazing Superintendent, Facilities and Equipment Development professional to fill this role, which is based in our Fairbanks, AK office. You’ll be responsible for scoping, budgeting, leading and completing projects to repair, renovate or refurbish our facilities and equipment at Alaska and Yukon lodges and hotels. This role involves managing processes and policies through the assistance of outside contractors, consultants and compliance specialists. The Superintendent, Facility and Equipment Development, will work closely with operations, safety/compliance and other team members to ensure business needs and regulatory compliance are considered and met. The ideal candidate will have a professional level of knowledge of the trades and current building codes and regulations, as would be acquired through a PM or engineering degree. Demonstration of directly related work experience, which has provided an equivalent breadth, and depth of knowledge may be considered in lieu of the educational requirements. Must have the ability to meet deadlines, with an attention to detail and accuracy, while working in a team or group environment. Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing will all levels of team members, customers and suppliers/vendors is critical. Requirements

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft computer business applications.
  • CAD experience preferred.
  • Understanding of current UBC, OSHA and fire marshal requirements and regulations.
  • Qualified to drive company light-duty vehicles.
  • 5 years’ experience managing or supervising construction projects involving multiple trades in Alaska.
  • Experience reading and understanding engineering reports, design documents, construction drawings, state and federal rules, codes and regulations.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Holland America Line/Princess is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas at this time (e.g., H-1B status).

  • Requires leading diverse project teams that include team members, outside contractors, vendors and consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Developing project scope documents, soliciting necessary engineering and design, writing and submitting RFP's, soliciting and reviewing bids.
  • Reviewing project bid costs, identifying value engineering opportunities, reviewing invoices, estimating future capital project costs.
  • Coordination and communication with team members, consultants, contractors and regulatory agencies.
  • On-site project status reviews and scope/quality confirmation, reviewing and approving change orders, reviewing and approving field changes, coordinating and leading punch walks.
  • Communication of project status, financial updates and early reporting of incidents and challenges impacting schedule, safety or budget.
