About The Position

The Mission Space is the bleeding edge for humanity's next industrial revolution. While reusable rockets have opened the door, true economic transformation requires infrastructure that makes orbit as accessible and reliable as air travel. At Lux Aeterna, we're building that future by developing the first reusable satellite platform with return capability transforming space from a one-way street into a two-way highway for innovation and commerce. The Opportunity We are seeking an exceptional Super Technician to be the first on Lux Aeterna’s hardware team. The role is a mix between building manufacturing system and building hardware. As a small & dynamic team, we don’t have rigid walls between technicians and engineering. You will assemble, integrate, and test flight and development hardware, while also helping build the manufacturing foundation that allows us to scale with rigor. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality hardware and helping build the manufacturing systems around it to enable high cadence, high reliability space operations. You'll be working at the forefront of aerospace technology, solving complex challenges that have profound implications for the future of commercial spaceflight. This is a unique opportunity to: Be responsible for spacecraft hardware from inception through assembly, test, and closeout Help build the early manufacturing OS (work instructions, travelers, inspection plans, test procedures, tooling) that will scale with the company Support the first of its kind refurbishment and reflight of satellite hardware Work directly with technical leadership to shape the future of space transportation Join a rapidly growing team with the resources to tackle ambitious technical challenges Why Lux Aeterna? Pioneering Technology: We're developing the first reusable satellite platform with controlled return capability, fundamentally transforming space from a one-way journey to a two-way highway Real Impact: Your work will enable new industries in space manufacturing, research, and logistics while pioneering sustainable space infrastructure Speed & Autonomy: We maintain parallel hardware development streams and empower engineers to innovate rapidly while upholding rigorous aerospace standards World-Class Team: Work alongside experts from leading aerospace companies and research institutions, building technology that will reshape humanity's access to space The Role You'll lead hands-on build execution and help build our manufacturing system, including:

Requirements

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience building and testing high-reliability aerospace (or similarly rigorous) hardware with tight tolerances and strong documentation discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to independently execute complex assemblies and troubleshoot issues using first principles and careful observation
  • Proven experience creating or improving manufacturing documentation (work instructions, travelers, inspection checklists, test procedures)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assemblies: fastener torque practices, adhesion/bonding basics (as applicable), precision fit-up, cleanliness and contamination control
  • Comfortable operating common shop and lab tools (hand tools, drill press/mill/lathe basics as applicable, measurement tools, calibrated instruments)
  • Experience with quality systems and discipline: nonconformance reporting, root cause support, corrective actions, and traceability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment with high ownership, strong prioritization, and minimal supervision
  • Strong written communication and organizational habits & able to leave a clean “paper trail” and make builds repeatable.
  • Good intuition on when to involve engineers for judgment in problem solving.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building spacecraft, launch vehicle, hypersonic, or other flight-critical hardware (structures, mechanisms, propulsion-adjacent hardware, avionics packaging)
  • Experience with environmental and acceptance testing (vibe, TVAC, leak checks, pressure systems, functional checkouts)
  • Familiarity with basic GD&T interpretation and reading engineering drawings to drive correct build execution
  • Experience with avionics integration, including harness and connector familiariarity.
  • CNC/manual mill and/or lathe experience.
  • Experience with composites, precision bonding, potting/encapsulation, or reentry-appropriate materials and coatings (as relevant)
  • Experience implementing or operating within an MRP/ERP environment and maintaining BOM/routing discipline
  • Early-stage startup experience, especially as an early manufacturing hire building process from scratch

Responsibilities

  • Assembly, integration, and rework of precision aerospace hardware (development, qualification, and flight articles)
  • Building, maintaining, and improving work instructions, travelers, assembly standards, and other build documentation with flight-quality rigor
  • Drive metrology and inspection activities (receiving inspection, in-process inspection, final inspection), including nonconformance documentation and disposition support
  • Designing and fabricating simple fixtures, tooling, and GSE; coordinating more complex tooling with engineers and vendors
  • Driving spacecraft refurbishment and return-to-flight operations: teardown, inspection, repair, and reassembly processes
  • Establish and operate configuration management for hardware builds (serial tracking, as-built records, materials traceability)
  • Key in standing up our MRP/ERP foundation: part & inventory transactions, and process discipline
  • Spearheading supply chain execution at the point of use: kitting, line-side inventory, lot/serial traceability, and controlled storage practices
  • Contributing to EHS-conscious lab operations (handling procedures, chemical controls as applicable, cleanliness/ESD discipline, tool calibration control)
  • Collaborating tightly with engineers to improve designs for manufacturability, testability, and turnaround time
