About The Position

What We Can Achieve Together: The Conservancy owns and manages roughly 1850 acres of the Sunny Valley Preserve. This preserve includes 1450 acres of natural lands, 450 acres of working lands and over 20 miles of hiking trails located in the towns of Bridgewater and New Milford Connecticut. The Land Steward will perform and participate in preserve operations, maintenance, and management. The Land Steward maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public and removes exotic species. The Land Steward maintains tools and equipment and may open and close preserve(s) to the visiting public. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain. This position will include working on some construction projects associated with preserve buildings. This is a short- term summer seasonal position. We’re Looking for You: Are you interested in learning what is involved in conservation-focused land management? Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 6 months of related experience
  • Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).
  • Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application).
  • This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program.
  • Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers."
  • Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.
