About The Position

Under the direction of the Placement & Summer Youth Manager, the Job Coach for the Summer Youth Work Experience program is responsible for providing on-the-job supports for high school students and young adults with disabilities to help them achieve greater independence develop work-readiness. Support consists of assessing their needs and abilities, as well as offering instruction and guidance to help them be successful at work. The Summer Job Coach provides timely and accurate timesheets and case notes weekly.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to a variety of locations.
  • Must pass required background checks.
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and email attachment functions
  • In order to be eligible for hire candidates must answer all application questions and sign the application.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a variety of job coaching services for students/participants including but not limited to job coaching to develop appropriate job-keeping behaviors, task analysis, development of skills to complete specific job tasks and productivity standards, development of natural supports if applicable, and the identification and implementation of reasonable accommodations at the job site.
  • Assess student’s ability to meet employer expectations, including productivity measurements and standards required of typical employees in the same position
  • Develop on-the-job training strategies and offer instruction at the worksite including but not limited to specific skills training, adjustment to the work environment, and appropriate social interactions with coworkers and customers.
  • Ensure the supports/coaching strategies provided and participant progress is documented daily.
  • Track hours daily and provide signed timecards weekly for students enrolled in the service.
  • Advocate for the student/participant at the work site and assist the students/participants to learn how to advocate for themselves effectively and professionally.
  • Help ensure that the person’s rights and dignity are safeguarded.
  • Assist students/participants upon arrival at the work site to get into the building and to their work station.
  • Help students at the end of the shift to follow their transportation plan (if they will walk, ride a bike or take the bus independently) and/or to find the person or company that will transport them home from work.
  • Regular attendance at each assignment is required.
  • The Job Coach must remain physically present with the students and keep students within sight at all times.
