About The Position

Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago is accepting applications for our Summer Youth Art (IACA) Internship from high school students to intern in our Art Studio from June to August. Accepted students will gain real life experience working with children from birth to age 8, engaging them in developmentally appropriate activities in the Adventures in Art Studio. Interested students should have a demonstrated interest in the arts and enjoy working with children. The Art Studio internship will be approximately 70 hours, 10 hours per week for 7 weeks beginning June 2026 and is a paid internship.  Applicants will be notified of acceptance in May, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Engage early childhood visitors through developmentally appropriate practices
  • Set and reset the Art Studio throughout the day
  • Assist and provide direction to visitors in the use of Studio environment
  • Conduct daily tasks to ensure the cleanliness of the art studio
  • Assist with additional art programming within museum

  • Art Studio interns will benefit from this opportunity by acquiring real-life experience working with children and engaging them in developmentally appropriate activities in the Art Studio. Activities for the children in the Art Studio include painting, drawing, collage and monthly art projects.
  • Skills acquired include teaching and engaging children in learning through play.
  • Art Studio interns will create a portfolio of their work accomplishments, including photos, written descriptions of their work experiences and lesson plans they create.
  • Museum staff will support interns in reaching their summer employment goals.
