About The Position

Join our Summer Vacation at the Y team and help create an unforgettable summer experience for youth ages 5-13! We are hiring both Lead Counselors and Counselors to assist with planning, organizing, and supervising daily camp activities. Key Responsibilities: Plan and implement creative, engaging, and educational activities including arts & crafts, science projects, team-building exercises, and field trips. (lesson planning) Build positive relationships with campers, parents, and fellow staff, promoting a welcoming and supportive camp environment. Model and reinforce the YMCA’s core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Encourage campers’ social, emotional, and physical development through positive guidance and interactive play. Maintain safety procedures, actively supervise participants, and follow YMCA policies and state regulations. Work collaboratively as part of a team and demonstrate flexibility, energy, and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Must meet the qualifications for Assistant Teacher under DCF 251 Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Prior to work, all staff will be required to provide a Physician-signed health examination and complete a fingerprint background check.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Must be able to actively participate in physical activities, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and keep up with an energetic group of campers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with school-age children in a camp, child care, or educational setting preferred.
  • Background or coursework in education, recreation, or related fields is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
