About The Position

The Summer Teacher's Assistant works directly with students to help them attain and maintain the skills necessary to achieve maximum functional independence. This role supports and promotes student rights while functioning as an active member of the Interdisciplinary Team. This position requires adherence to universal precautions and may involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials. Appropriate protective measures and blood-borne pathogen procedures are required at all times.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug test

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of college or related experience preferred
  • Minimum 6 months of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct teaching in: Functional academics, Communication skills, Social interaction, Community integration, Recreational skills, Vocational skills, Daily living skills
  • Implement objectives outlined in Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and other treatment protocols
  • Follow basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Use the least restrictive methods to maintain safety
  • Support implementation of Consumer Service Plans
  • Assist students in making choices regarding daily activities
  • Supervise meals and snacks
  • Organize and lead indoor and outdoor activities
  • Transport students to appointments and recreational activities
  • Collect and record educational and behavioral data
  • Complete required documentation in a timely manner, including: Medication sheets, Incident and injury reports, Clinical program logs, Therapy notes, Data collection records, Purchase orders and receipts, Activity schedules, Fire drill documentation
  • Maintain adequate medication supplies
  • Participate in fire drills
  • Communicate effectively with students, caregivers, coworkers, and supervisors
  • Report: Hazardous Conditions to Safety Committee, Maintenance needs to be reported to your supervisor, Student illness or injury to the nurse, Suspected abuse or neglect to the Compliance Officer/Rights Protection Officer, Behavioral concerns to the Behavior Team
  • Adhere to universal precautions and blood-borne pathogen standards
  • Administer medication under nurse/BESC supervision
  • Perform SAMA techniques as needed
  • Perform CPR and abdominal thrust maneuver as needed
  • Respond quickly in emergency or life-threatening situations
