About The Position

The Summer Swim Club Coordinator leads poolside programming at the JCC Summer Swim Club, creating a safe, fun, and engaging environment for members and families. This role provides on-deck leadership to lifeguards and seasonal staff while collaborating with Aquatics, Fitness, and Membership teams. The position is primarily outdoors and requires comfort in warm weather, the ability to move around the pool deck for extended periods, and ability to lift of up to 50 pounds for activity equipment and materials, and availability to work weekends and holidays. ABOUT YOU You are energetic, outgoing, and enjoy working with people of all ages. In this role, you will lead daily poolside activities, create engaging experiences for members, and support a positive team environment. You are comfortable taking initiative, organizing programs, and helping staff stay engaged and responsive. Your goal is to create a welcoming atmosphere while ensuring smooth daily operations on the pool deck.

Requirements

  • Experience in recreation, aquatics, camp programming, hospitality, or event coordination
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to engage with children, families, and members of all ages
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification required, or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Current Lifeguard certification preferred
  • Previous experience leading group activities or supervising staff

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead recreational activities for children, families, and members
  • Organize activities such as lawn games, pool challenges, water volleyball, trivia, crafts, and themed events
  • Maintain and communicate a weekly activity schedule
  • Create a welcoming and energetic poolside environment
  • Encourage participation and interaction among members and families
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Provide on-deck leadership and support to lifeguards and seasonal staff
  • Help ensure staff remain visible, engaged, and responsive
  • Reinforce safety standards and facility policies
  • Communicate staffing needs, concerns, and team updates as needed
  • Assist with special events, holiday programming, and weekend activities
  • Coordinate music, games, and themed experiences during peak hours
  • Assist with setup and organization of activity areas
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized pool environment
  • Track participation and provide feedback to improve programming
  • Basic understanding of pool operations, including checking water chemical levels and reporting any issues to ensure a safe environment
