About The Position

The Summer Strings Orchestra Teacher leads one assigned string orchestra ensemble (beginner, intermediate, or advanced) during a one-week summer program. Teachers plan instruction and repertoire appropriate to the ensemble level, build musicianship and ensemble skills, and prepare students for an informal recital at the conclusion of camp. The role includes student supervision and maintaining a positive learning environment grounded in mutual respect.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to teach and rehearse string orchestra ensembles.
  • Strong classroom management and student supervision skills.
  • Ability to plan instruction and repertoire appropriate to student skill level.
  • Completion of a CORI check (required).
  • State fingerprinting must be completed at the employee’s own expense (required).

Nice To Haves

  • Public school and/or youth ensemble teaching experience.
  • Experience differentiating instruction within mixed-ability string groups.

Responsibilities

  • Select developmentally appropriate repertoire aligned to the assigned ensemble level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced).
  • Plan and deliver curriculum and daily activities for the assigned group, including warm-ups, technique, rehearsal routines, and musicianship-building experiences.
  • Lead the ensemble in an informal recital/performance at the end of the camp week.
  • Establish and maintain strong classroom routines, manage student behavior, and foster a safe, inclusive environment and a classroom culture of mutual respect.
  • Supervise students during break times, including monitoring students outside as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Summer Strings staff and program leadership to ensure consistent expectations and a high-quality program experience.
