About The Position

Become a valuable part of the JMU community by assisting with caring for the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, a lush forest sanctuary located on campus in the heart of the stunning Shenandoah Valley.

Located off University Blvd. across from E Hall and Jennings, the Arboretum is a great place to get active and have fun while learning about landscaping fundamentals.

Requirements

• This position begins after May 15 and concludes by mid-August (exact date negotiable).
• You must have held a valid driver’s license for 2 years and be 19 or older.
• You must be available to complete shifts between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday-Friday.
• Related experience is helpful but not necessary.
• Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Duties include weekly maintenance (weed eating, blowing, mowing), watering, mulching, chipping trails, and cleaning debris.
• You may also assist with planting and weeding.
• Tools used include but are not limited to: weed eater, blower, walk-behind mower, hand tools such as pruners, loopers, trowel, shovel, rake, mattock, rock bar, etc.
• Vehicles driven include John Deer Gator and Polaris ATVs and golf carts.
• Shifts will be between 6:30 am and 3 pm, Monday - Friday.
