About The Position

We are in search of Summer Science Camp Educators for our Summer Science Camps Team at the Museum. This fun and engaging Science Camp Team works collaboratively to facilitate captivating curriculum for campers and to provide a fun, safe and engaging environment. Along the way, we dive into the wild worlds of space science, health science, paleontology, and zoology! Be a Catalyst! Camp educators host and provide high quality, engaging, and fun Museum camp programs. Job Class: Part Time Hiring Range: $21.00 Work Schedule: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. This is a seasonal job with fluctuating hours: May 2 to June 1 Pre-camp PT: approx. 3-5 hours/week- online and in-person training June 1 to Aug 7 Camp FT: 35-40 hours/week August 7 to August 21 Post-camp PT: approx. 8-12 hours/week

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science, education, recreation, outdoor education, or a subject in the human service field or equivalent time and experience required.
  • 3 months (455 hours) experience in the care of 4 or more children over ages of 4 who are not related to the applicant. This includes camp, childcare center and formal education settings. Babysitting, tutoring or coaching does not qualify as childcare experience.
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be able to provide a qualification letter from previous employer(s) stating that you have met the experience requirement of a Program Lead OR provide proof of Early Childhood Professional Credential in Colorado Shines.   • Experience with informal learning or science education, and teaching in formal or informal settings.
  • Ability to learn content quickly.
  • Demonstrates skills in time and classroom management, dynamic teaching methods/delivery, and problem solving.
  • Ability to be flexible and think on their feet.
  • Enthusiasm for working with and engaging children with patience and empathy, while utilizing a strong child-centered pedagogue.
  • An understanding of the day-to-day of Summer Camps, Day Camps, or childcare.
  • Teaching degree is beneficial, not required.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers Early Childhood Education (ECE) and children's programs on a variety of topics and through a range of formats which may include or combine: demonstration, dissection, virtual engagement, direct instruction, or theatrical performance.
  • Prepares for program delivery by ensuring content is accurate, logistics are confirmed, and set-up/break-down duties are completed.
  • Assumes an active role in creating a dynamic, visitor focused, and inclusive experience for program participants.
  • Impacts and inspires visitors/participants through skillful engagement and accomplished educational practice.
  • Prioritizes time for frequent and consistent contact with colleagues: in person, through email, and meetings
