SUMMER PROGRAM SCHEDULE 8:15 Teacher Daily Arrival Time 2:15 Teacher Daily Release Time Week 1: July 6-9 (M-Th) / 4 days - 24 hours per week Week 2: July 13-16 (M-Th) / 4 days - 24 hours per week Week 3: July 20-23 (M-Th) / 4 days - 24 hours per week Week 4: July 27-30 (M-Th) / 4 days - 24 hours per week Week 5: August 3-6 (M-Th) / 4 days - 24 hours per week 2 hours for Open House (TBD) 2 hours for Celebration of Learning (TBD) The Paraeducators will work under the direction and in cooperation with a certificated staff member. The Paraeducator will work with individual and small groups of students in a classroom and recess setting.Will provide supervision duties such as playground, bus duty, lunch duty, and crossing guard. This opening will establish a pool of qualified candidates and is paid on a timesheet basis.

Requirements

  • Current contracted Mount Vernon School District employee
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required - Spanish skill will be assessed at interview
  • Must possess a high school diploma (or equivalent)
  • At a minimum, AA degree or higher, or two years of college, or ability to meet State-determined performance standards in reading, math and writing (i.e.,paraeducator assessment)
  • Sensitivity towards children; ability to promote a child’s self-concept
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must be flexible, have the ability to work with all types of people and be attentive to detail/paperwork
  • Must understand the process related to learning concepts in a variety of topics
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions and be able to work independently
  • Ability to handle student information in a confidential manner
  • Must be able to work with staff and students, including the monitoring and disciplining of student activities
  • Must be able to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress, and to exercise careful judgment and tact in the performance of duties
  • Must maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours specified under contract
  • Must professionally interact with culturally diverse students, staff, and members of the public
  • Must establish professional and ongoing contacts with students
  • Must be able to obtain a valid First Aid certificate and CPR training if required
  • Must comply with all district policies and comply with the code of professional conduct

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with school-age students; previous successful experience working with ELL students preferred
  • Willingness to assist teachers in an interdisciplinary project-based instructional format with the goal of increasing student engagement in summer school

Responsibilities

  • Work with individual and small groups of students in a classroom and recess setting.

  • Provide fieldtrip supervision, including bus rides and walking fieldtrips
  • Assist teachers in an interdisciplinary project-based instructional format with the goal of increasing student engagement in summer school
  • Assist with other duties when short-staffed
