About the position

The Summer School: ESY Substitute Paraprofessional position is designed to assist instructional staff in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning learning environment where students can fully engage with the instructional program. The role involves working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning, implementing special strategies for students based on their needs, and assisting with behavioral strategies. The paraprofessional will also support students in various school activities and ensure their participation in mainstream classes, as well as assist with daily living skills when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by staff.
  • Assist staff in devising and implementing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students.
  • Assist staff in implementing behavioral strategies for individual students and assist with students in crisis.
  • Accompany students to specials, mainstreaming, and exploratory classes to facilitate their full participation.
  • Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as recommended by staff.
  • Assist with equipment, technology, and augmentative communication devices used with students.
  • Assist students with completion of instructional assignments and supervise testing and makeup work.
  • Check and record student attendance and assist in data collection.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, including during emergency drills and transitions.
  • Assist students with daily living skills such as dressing, lunch, and toileting.
  • Alert staff to any problems or special information about individual students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and function as a mandated reporter.
  • Perform non-teaching duties as assigned by staff or administration.

Requirements

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator's, Paraprofessional, or Substitute License registered in Lake County.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 60 credit hours of college credit.

Nice-to-haves

  • Classroom experience.
  • Spanish-speaking ability.
