About The Position

Seeking two students to work on externally-funded research projects related to the development and study of small molecules to combat antibiotic resistance. Student researchers will help plan and execute experiments and analyze data as needed to accomplish the aims of the study.

Requirements

• Successful candidates should have completed at least 2 semesters of chemistry and have experience working in a laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Comply with all safety regulations as outlined by HPU, the Department of Chemistry, and the Principal Investigator
• Keep organized and accurate records of all experiments and data, according to guidelines for good lab practices
• Conduct biological assays using BSL 1 and BSL 2 bacterial pathogens, observing appropriate biosafety procedures
• Conduct biochemical experiment including but not limited to: RNA purification, RT-qPCR, gene cloning, bacterial transformation, analysis of Sanger sequencing and RNA-sequencing data, human cell culture, chemical synthesis, and protein purification.
