About The Position

Summer live-in position to provide supervision, guidance, and recreational activities for high school students who attend Ithaca College’s Summer Pre-College Programs. Training and orientation will occur from July 7 th through July 11 th , 2026. The Summer Pre-College Programs will operate between July 12 th and July 31 st , 2026. Resident Assistants must be on campus beginning Monday evening July 6 th and remain through the afternoon of Saturday, August 1 st , 2026.

Requirements

  • Candidates should express a genuine interest in working with a diverse group of high-school students in a residence hall/campus environment within an academic program.
  • We expect you to work collaboratively and independently, while being proactive and committed to program and student success.
  • All RAs must consent to and be able to pass a federal and state criminal history and sex offender background check by the college, comply with the Minor Protection Policy, attend a health and safety meeting, and be able to practice and adhere to the methods and guidelines as stated in the Ithaca College Safety and Medical Plan.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Residence Life experience is a plus but is not required.
  • Candidates with prior experience working with young people in a camp environment, a history of providing leadership to a variety of age groups, and the ability to foster the development of a community through a variety of methods are encouraged to apply.
  • Preference will be given to current Ithaca College students.

Responsibilities

  • Providing supervision and guidance to the pre-college participants (ages typically 14-17) who stay overnight in Ithaca College residence halls
  • Ensuring the physical safety and overall well-being of participants
  • Checking in with participants during meals and recreational times
  • Helping families and participants during the move-in and check-out process
  • Assisting participants with navigating campus to their classrooms or other needed resources (typically during orientation and the first few days of the program)
  • Designing and running daily recreational activities (games, contests, etc.)
  • Being on duty or back-up to be the first point of contact, to manage the program phone, and to supervise on and off-campus activities for participants as determined by the Resident Coordinator (typically a rotating schedule)
  • Serving as a role model for participants both personally and professionally, including modeling behaviors that are consistent with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Storing and providing to participants over-the-counter or prescription medication as permitted by consent forms signed by a participant’s parent or guardian
  • Informing the Resident Coordinator of any conflicts, accidents, and disciplinary problems in the residence hall or among participants (and escalating to the Director of OES if necessary)
  • Helping with participant mail and package delivery
  • Other duties as necessary or assigned

Benefits

  • This position’s compensation rate is set at a total salary of $2,560.00 and will be paid out over two pay periods starting with the second paycheck in July and finishing with the first paycheck in August.
  • In addition to this salary, a room in the residence hall with the participants and full meal plan are provided.
