About The Position

This seasonal position directs the recreational activities for children in grades k – 3. The camp runs for six weeks in the summer (June 15 to July 24) , Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at four of the elementary schools. Work is performed with independent judgment under the general supervision of the Summer Playground Supervisor. This position is not eligible for paid sick hours, due to being a six-week, seasonal position. Applicants for playground camp counselor must be at least 15 years of age.

Requirements

• Clear understanding of recreational department activities and procedures.
• Interpersonal skills
• Display a knowledge of Basic First-Aid
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance
• Applicants for playground camp counselor must be at least 15 years of age.

Nice To Haves

• Experience organizing youth activities is preferred.
• CPR/AED and First Aid preferred.

Responsibilities

• Meets with Camp Supervisor and other camp counselors during In-Service training to develop a themed activity calendar for the summer.
• Supervises volunteers and children in daily camp activities.
• Ensures the safety of campers at all times.
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
• Performs all other work assigned.
