Summer Nursing Assistant - Student Program at Garnet Health Medical Center - Catskills in Harris, NY: Open to ASN/BSN Nursing Students, who are available to join our medical surgical team beginning this summer through August (possibility of continuance beyond the summer). The Nursing Assistant performs assigned patient care tasks and other related unit duties, defined, and delegated under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse/Licensed Professional Nurse. Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range for the role is $21.59- $22.24 hourly. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity)

Requirements

  • Open to ASN/BSN Nursing Students, who are available to join our medical surgical team beginning this summer through August (possibility of continuance beyond the summer).
  • Minimum work requirement of 3 to 4 (7.25) hour shifts per week.
  • Alternating weekends required.
  • Nursing students only.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Satisfactory completion of Nursing Assistant/Aide course, with CNA certification preferred for all new hires as of June 1, 2007.
  • BLS certification and EKG training/competency must be completed prior to being released from unit orientation, must maintain BLS Certification and EKG competency throughout duration of employment.
  • Must attend hospital crisis training program within 3 months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.
  • Position will primarily be medium to light work requiring lifting with lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching are required. Position requires 20% sitting and 80% standing or walking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken and written word is required.
  • Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.

  • CNA certification preferred for all new hires as of June 1, 2007.

Responsibilities

  • The Nursing Assistant performs assigned patient care tasks and other related unit duties, defined, and delegated under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse/Licensed Professional Nurse.
  • Assists patients with healthcare needs, activities of daily living and provides bedside care—including basic nursing procedures—all under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
