About The Position

The Summer 2026 Nurse Externship at York Hospital is designed for nursing students entering their final semester or year. This program offers an 8-week clinical experience from June 1, 2026, to July 25, 2026, where externs will work in one unit while having opportunities to shadow in other units. The externship requires a minimum work commitment of 36 hours per week with rotating shifts based on the preceptor's schedule. Participants will receive a paid clinical experience and will be paired with a 1:1 experienced RN preceptor. The externship includes rotations in various areas such as the Surgical Unit, Medical Unit, Emergency Department, Maternity, Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics, NICU, Critical Care Units, and the Operating Room.

Requirements

• Must include uploaded resume, transcript, and letter of recommendation from current nursing instructor.
• Must have completed Medical Surgical rotation in an accredited nursing program prior to the start of the externship.
• Must maintain good standing status in an accredited nursing program.
• Consideration given for RN students who are entering final semester/year (graduation in winter 2026-summer 2027).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to patients by performing a variety of duties.
• Assist with data collection and provision of care.
• Complete selected therapeutic interventions.
• Document care provided for a specified group of patients.
