About The Position
The Reno Gazette Journal/RGJ.com, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a summer news intern for reporting on breaking news, features and sports. Candidates must be a current college student studying journalism or recent graduate with a journalism or related degree. The Reno Gazette Journal is a vibrant, collaborative newsroom with a mix of seasoned veterans and reporters new in their career, so there will be a range colleagues to work with and learn from. We cover the people, places and issues of importance to Reno, Sparks, Lake Tahoe and beyond through words, photos and video. The internship is for 10 weeks at an hourly rate of $18. Beginning and end dates can be flexible to work around school schedules but not to exceed 400 hours. Application Deadline: April 24, 2026
Requirements
- Be passionate and enthusiastic about news and content that will work well with audiences on social platforms.
- Be comfortable using social media such as X, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat to enhance reporting and promote stories.
- Understand reporting ethics and sourcing.
- Excel in a fast-paced news environment and understands the digital first mission.
- Work weekends and nights as needed.
- Collaborate with others and work with a team on the biggest stories.
- Have a strong command of AP style, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- This role requires a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
