About The Position

More information is available on our website. The Baldwin School is hiring Lifeguards/Swim Instructors to join our Summer Camp! The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swimming lessons, guarding the pool during open swimming, ensuring the safety of all people in the pool area and learning procedures to maintain the cleanliness of the pool facility. Lifeguards will start June 11th, 2026 for 3 days of paid mandatory training. Our camp runs Monday through Friday June 16th - August 1st.

Requirements

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age, by June 1st, 2026
  • At least 1 year of lifeguard experience required
  • Swim instructor experience preferred
  • Previous experience working with children
  • Must have certifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard or Water Safety Instructor certification or American Red Cross Lifeguard or Water Safety Instructor equivalent
  • Push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds across campus.
  • Be upright, and mobile for an extended period of time.
  • Must have the physical capability to see (near and far), climb, bend, swim, float, kneel and carry individuals during rescue operations
  • Thorough knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills
  • Decision-making skills
  • Communication skills
  • Leadership skills

Nice To Haves

  • Swim instructor experience preferred
  • Prior teaching experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all class participants are visible and safe at all times
  • Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants
  • Ensure and teach water safety
  • Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
  • Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
  • Teach daily swim instruction to campers grades Pre-K-8th grade with different ability levels
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by Camp Director
