About The Position

Position Summary Location of position: Interns are expected to work in-person at least two days per week at Denver Water’s main Administration Bldg, located at 1600 W. 12th Avenue Denver, CO 80204. Additional hours may be performed remotely.   Each Internship is full-time: approximately 40 hours per week.   All candidates must submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample, all in one document. The Office of General Counsel consists of nine attorneys who are engaged in the areas of natural resources, environmental, public lands, water, contracts, real estate, business, employment, municipal law, and civil litigation.   This Intern will join the Office of General Counsel and: May be called upon to answer questions involving any of the areas of law. They’ll write responses to attorneys which may take the form of a memorandum, correspondence, a portion of a brief, response to discovery, or other documents. Law clerks may attend meetings with clients, depositions, hearings, trials and meetings of the Board of Water Commissioners.   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform this intern project: Attention to detail Ability/desire to work independently Good communications skills Proficient in legal research and writing   During the Summer Intern Program, there are three(3) mandatory events. Intern positions do not come with any benefits other than holiday pay and Accrued Paid Sick Leave. Interns and Denver Water Temps accrue one hour of Accrued Paid Sick Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year per the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act. Qualifications Hiring Criteria: The successful candidate must possess high-level research, writing and analytical skills. At the minimum, students must be in their second year of law school in Fall 2025.   Education Requirements: Graduate level student currently in their second year of law school in the Summer of 2026   Experience Requirements The successful candidate must possess high-level research, writing and analytical skills.   License Requirements: N/A   Pre-Employment Requirements: A background check including education and criminal history.   An offer of employment may be contingent upon satisfactory results of a post-offer drug test and alcohol. Denver Water tests for the following: amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana (THC), opiates, and phencyclidine (PCP). A strength test may also be conducted due to the physical requirements of the position. This strength test may include lifting, pushing, and pulling various amounts of weight as well as crouching, squatting, and lifting one’s own body weight from various positions. If the position is deemed safety-sensitive or requires a CDL, you will be placed on the random drug and alcohol testing list, which means you may be tested if your name is selected while employed at Denver Water.   Applicants for employment at Denver Water must be authorized to work in the U.S. Denver Water will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa.
