About The Position

Looking for a hands-on summer job that keeps you active and outdoors? The Village of Schaumburg is hiring Summer Laborers to support daily operations and maintenance activities across various divisions. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy physical work and want to contribute to keeping our community clean, safe, and well-maintained. The Summer Laborer reports to the Division Supervisor and performs unskilled labor to assist with daily operations, using basic tools and equipment. Responsibilities include minor maintenance tasks, custodial work, and general support for public works and facility operations. A strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members and supervisors is essential. This is a seasonal position, typically based on a 40-hour work week during the summer months .

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency with current computer technology, job-specific software, and customer service systems.
  • Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period.
  • Subject to extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt temperature changes.
  • Subject to fumes or disagreeable odors.
  • Subject to extended periods of isolation.
  • Subject to inclement weather conditions.
  • Subject to working in wet, dirty, dusty, hot, humid, and/or cold conditions in high vehicle traffic areas.
  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions. Ability to lift and move 75 pounds frequently.
  • Frequent and/or prolonged bending, stooping, standing, pulling, pushing, or reaching.
  • Occasionally works at heights/depths of 10 to 60 feet above or below ground.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of routine unskilled manual tasks, uses simple tools, and carries and wheels heavy material as required.
  • Performs minor maintenance and custodial work in the care of Village owned buildings, grounds, and facilities.
  • Performs shop and yard clean-up and organization. Is responsible for the arrangement, location, and proper operation of job-related tools and equipment in the shop/yard environment.
  • Keeps accurate records of accomplishments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
