About The Position

The Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding international trade and commerce for businesses and governments globally. BCIU works with 150 member companies, including global multinationals, and has an extensive network of government relationships worldwide. For sixty-five years, BCIU has focused on progress and shaping the future by addressing complex global challenges such as global health, cybersecurity, and agricultural sustainability. They provide bespoke, transformative services to help partners deepen economic cooperation and enhance global growth across markets. BCIU hosts virtual and in-person programming to connect its members with leading government officials from the U.S. and around the world. Individuals in the internship program support these events by conducting research, managing correspondence, assisting with proposal writing, and executing office administrative duties. Interns will have the option to report to either the Washington, DC, or New York office.

Requirements

  • Meticulous attention to detail and deadlines with outstanding organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Market and web/database research capabilities in various areas (countries, regions, global organizations, sectors, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) executed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge or interest to learn about Client Relation Management (CRM) database management. BCIU utilizes the Zoho platform.
  • Interest in international affairs and trade.
  • Active and enthusiastic team-based mentality, high energy, and quick learning skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Foreign language skills desired.

Responsibilities

  • Create and edit event materials.
  • Create and update event website entries to assist with program logistics.
  • Conduct outreach via phone and email to senior government officials and global business leaders, and track event participation.
  • Assist with coordinating logistics before, during, and after events.
  • Attend various meetings and provide notes.
  • Use a variety of databases and innovative (self-starter) methods to identify the top global firms with current or future interests in a particular market or region, tracking political climate, international conference schedules, congressional confirmations for important officials, and other topics, as needed.
  • Maintain and grow outreach lists based on country and sector priorities.
  • Maintain and clean up data in CRM Database.
  • Generate reports.
