About The Position

SMX is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a 2026 Summer Internship within our Space and Intel business unit in Broomfield, CO. We are looking for driven, innovative individuals who are passionate about software engineering. This is a unique chance to apply your skills in software development technologies while contributing to mission critical projects for the United States Department of Defense/Intelligence Community. Join us and be part of a team that's shaping the future of technology! The SMX Summer Internship Program runs for roughly ten weeks during the Summer Semester months. Summer Interns will be introduced to our winning culture through onsite, hands-on learning experiences and exposure to the full software development lifecycle as you develop and deliver features for our existing products. As an SMX Summer Intern you will: Participate in an approximately 10 week session to learn from tenured professionals Engage in meetings, calls, and gatherings with your designated team. Benefit from an assigned SMX mentor who will provide guidance, clarification and feedback. Work on a meaningful target Capstone project throughout the internship, culminating in a final project presentation to leadership. Attend department “Lunch and Learn” meetings with SMX leaders. Have assigned learning modules relevant to your area of focus Attend internship social, internal networking, and community volunteer events

Requirements

  • Strong critical thinking skills and a proactive approach to seeking knowledge and asking questions.
  • Ability to contribute to research, analysis, and problem-solving using various tools and techniques.

  • Willingness to embrace diverse perspectives and welcome opposing and conflicting ideas.
  • Must be enrolled full-time and pursuing an associate, undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university (junior or senior level preferred) in computer engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, aerospace engineering, or other related STEM field
  • Must be proficient in frontend languages such as React / JS as well as backend languages such as Java, Python, or C++
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • We look forward to welcoming interns who are available in the local Broomfield, CO area, as onsite presence will be required.
