About The Position

The Horticulture Plant Health Care Aide position is a summer internship opportunity within the Architect of the Capitol, designed for students interested in horticulture and plant health care. This role provides hands-on experience in managing plant health and pest control on Capitol Grounds and at the U.S. Botanic Garden, allowing interns to gain valuable insights into public service careers while contributing to the maintenance of the Capitol's landscape.

Requirements

  • Must be a current student enrolled in an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age by June 30, 2025.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or a lawful permanent resident seeking citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Majors in Plant Pathology, Landscape Architecture, Arboriculture, Horticulture, Natural Resource Management, or Biological Sciences are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily field scouting and monitoring of plant health.
  • Record data related to plant health and pest management.
  • Implement control tactics for major plant pests and diseases.
  • Set up and record the efficacy of control tactics for spider mite populations on ornamental plants.
  • Collaborate with gardeners and Plant Health Care Specialists on horticultural projects.
