Engineering Summer Intern 12-week paid internship | Fredericksburg, PA | In-office Program Overview The Engineering Summer Internship at Bell & Evans is a hands-on opportunity designed for engineering students seeking real-world manufacturing experience. This program allows interns to apply engineering principles to improve production processes, optimize labor and equipment utilization, and support data-driven decision-making in a complex, fast-paced manufacturing environment. As an Engineering Intern, you will work alongside engineering and operations teams to analyze systems, evaluate process performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives that directly impact efficiency, quality, safety, and cost. What You’ll Experience Apply engineering fundamentals to analyze manufacturing processes and production workflows Support process optimization, line balancing, and labor efficiency initiatives Collect, analyze, and interpret operational and production data to identify trends and improvement opportunities Assist in developing and refining engineering tools such as scheduling models, labor utilization reports, and process documentation Support process re-engineering and continuous improvement projects using standardized methodologies Collaborate with Operations, QA, Safety, and Maintenance teams to ensure solutions align with food safety, quality, and safety standards Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts related to efficiency, quality, and throughput Prepare technical reports, data summaries, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations Complete a defined engineering-focused capstone project and present results to leadership at the conclusion of the internship Provide weekly project updates and progress reports to engineering leadership

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or related discipline)
  • Strong interest in manufacturing systems, process optimization, and operational efficiency
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, formulas, charts)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement concepts is a plus

Responsibilities
