About The Position

The Summer Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students and beginning professionals with practical experience in a specific area of museum work at The Museum of Modern Art. Interns participate in weekly professional development activities designed to increase understanding of the Museum’s various collections, exhibitions, and departments. The Museum hosts approximately 25 interns in various departments across our institution. Participants may arrange for academic credit through their school, but it is not a requirement. MoMA Summer 2026 internships require a commitment of four days per week. The schedule is Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. One must have a minimum of two years of college completed (or equivalent) by June 2026 in order to apply. All summer intern applications are due by Sunday, March 1st by 11:59 PM EST. Duration: June 8—August 13; Ten Weeks The Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Research Institute for the Study of Art from Latin America aims to cultivate a deep appreciation of modern and contemporary Latin American art through sustained dialogues and rigorous research. The intern will assist the Director of the Cisneros Institute and Curator of Latin American Art with curatorial research, collection records and bibliographic files, and administrative tasks related to upcoming shows, focusing on the Teresa Margolles exhibition. Tasks include assisting the Curator, and Curatorial Assistant, on all aspects of research, planning, organization, and realization of upcoming exhibitions: research and cataloguing of the Museum collection and archives as they relate to the exhibition project; and any other duties reasonably related to these functions. Projects will focus on an exhibition featuring Teresa Margolles’s work developed in partnership with MoMA PS1 is scheduled for Fall 2026, as well as an open house event at PS1 in September.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of college completed (or equivalent) by June 2026
  • Academic and/or curatorial focus in Latin American art is required
  • Fluency in Spanish (speaking, writing, reading) is also required
  • Strong research, writing and organizational skills
