About The Position

Pref-Tech’s Summer Internship Program provides students with exposure to the security integration industry through hands-on experience across various departments within the organization. This opportunity is open to all qualified applicants, with students who participated in the Craftsman with Character (CWC) program encouraged to apply. Interns will be placed based on areas of interest, business need, and availability and will gain insight into day-to-day operations at our Houston corporate office. Due to job site safety requirements and federal labor regulations, field technician internships require participants to be at least 18 years old at the time of employment.

Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment eligibility will be verified upon hire in accordance with federal law
  • Reliable transportation to Pref-Tech’s Houston office: 1414 Wedgewood St., Houston, TX
  • Availability for the full internship dates
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, lifting, and navigating stairs or ladders, with reasonable accommodation as applicable
  • Access to a cell phone for work-related communication
  • Must be 18 years of age due to safety requirements and federal labor regulations.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks like walking, standing, driving.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat and rain.
  • Capable of ascending and descending ladders (6–14 feet) and stairs of varying heights with minimal restrictions, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting day-to-day activities within assigned departments
  • Completing required in-house training to understand company processes and operational standards
  • Shadowing team members to gain exposure to job responsibilities and workflows
  • Assisting with special projects that require collaboration across teams
  • Supporting outreach or promotional initiatives, including website and social media efforts, as applicable
  • Participating in all required program activities, including orientation, onboarding, training sessions, workshops, mentorship activities, meetings, and offsite visits as requested
  • Work with the on-site teams on construction sites and/or in active office spaces to get a sense of the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of the Operations department.
  • Become familiar with Company processes and operational techniques through completing required in-house training.
  • Opportunity to shadow team members.
  • Install cabling, mount equipment, install card readers, door contacts, mag locks, electrified strikes and integrated systems.
  • Functional understanding of low voltage systems, relays, principals of normally closed/normally open, series and parallel wiring.
  • General understanding of Network Topology.
  • Use a multi-meter to test for voltage, continuity, and resistance.
  • Operate any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.
