About The Position

About the Internship The Engineering Department is looking for a Traffic Engineering intern to join their team! The Engineering Department provides high quality and cost-effective engineering and architectural design services in a timely manner and in conformance with applicable codes, regulations, and Port Authority technical standards to deliver the Capital and Operating Programs to our client departments.

Requirements

Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
Major in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation
Valid Driver's License (field work is required at various Port Authority facilities)

Nice To Haves

Undergraduate students entering Junior or Senior Year preferred; highly motivated Sophomore-level students with an interest in Traffic Engineering will also be considered
Ability to create and update drawings using AutoCAD
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and organization skills
Experience with Microsoft Office apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
Interest in public service and/or transportation
Willingness to learn and collaborate

Responsibilities

Perform field investigations, inventories, and data collection throughout various PA facilities.
Assist in studies to improve traffic flow for motorists and pedestrians.
Support project teams by preparing basic documents, spreadsheets, drawings, and presentation materials.
