Summer Intern, RF Systems Engineering

Sirius XMWashington, DC
1d$37 - $40

About The Position

As an RF Systems Engineer Intern, you will work alongside experienced RF engineers to support the design, optimization, and performance analysis of SiriusXM’s terrestrial wireless systems. You will gain hands-on exposure to RF system performance engineering in complex urban environments, contributing to projects that improve signal quality, coverage, and reliability for our listeners. This role offers a balance of analytical work, lab-based activities, and supervised field experience, providing a practical introduction to real-world RF systems engineering

Requirements

  • Internships are open to current students enrolled at a university (those graduating by May 2027 are preferred) and recent graduates who graduated within the 12-month period prior to the start of the internship.
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Wireless Communications Engineering, Engineering Physics (with RF or electromagnetics coursework), or an Applied Engineering program with an RF or wireless emphasis.
  • Fundamental knowledge of RF and wireless communication principles, including signal propagation, path loss, interference, and basic link budget concepts.
  • Exposure to RF system analysis, modeling, or performance evaluation through coursework, laboratory work, or academic projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and summarize findings.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with good time management and organizational skills.
  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to RF planning, mapping, or analysis tools through coursework or prior internship experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with basic RF measurement concepts and test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, signal generators) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work with RF Systems and cross-functional teams to support ongoing network performance and optimization initiatives.
  • Assist with analysis, documentation, and field activities that contribute to the planning and improvement of SiriusXM’s terrestrial repeater network.
  • Assisting with RF performance analyses, including SNR and signal quality evaluations
  • Supporting RF propagation modeling and coverage analysis efforts using industry-standard planning tools
  • Helping analyze drive test data and preparing summaries to support system optimization decisions
  • Participating in supervised site walks and drive testing activities in metropolitan areas
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of RF design documentation, drawings, and reports
  • Collaborating with engineering and operations teams to support alignment between RF designs and field implementations
  • Gaining exposure to RF test equipment, measurement techniques, and lab-based validation activities
