Summer Intern Lineman Position: These positions are available to any successful applicants who have graduated from or are currently and actively enrolled in any Lineman college. OBJECTIVES To demonstrate the skills necessary to construct and maintain the transmission and distribution system by providing high quality electrical service to all customers. RESPONSIBILITIES This position is the beginning of active training in line work with a focus upon line construction. The person in this position should have demonstrated his/her ability to work effectively on a pole. When working with other linemen on a pole, the Intern shall always work in the lower position. The Intern should be able to perform the following work under close supervision of the Line Foreman or a Journeyman Lineman: Loads and unloads conductor, transformers, materials, and supplies. Properly frames distribution poles on the ground and in the air. Digs holes for poles and anchors. Sets and aligns poles and anchors and completes installation of overhead and down guy assemblies. Digs trenches for buried cable, installs underground cable and backfills trenches. Strings, splices, and ties in primary and secondary conductor. Assists in the Installation of transformers, oil circuit reclosers, regulators, capacitors, meter loops and other electrical apparatus. Assembles single-phase meter loops. Cuts and trims trees and/or brush and disposes of debris. Is familiar with the use of winch and hand lines. Assists in the maintenance of transportation equipment, tools, winches, and other work equipment. Reports defective transportation and working equipment, tools, materials and supplies to his/her supervisor for corrective action. Operates vehicles and equipment in a safe manner and within the regulations of all federal, state, and local laws. Observes all safety rules and regulations adopted by the Company and encourages others to do the same. Qualifies himself/herself in first aid and CPR. Attends and participates in group or departmental meetings as requested or required. Responds to trouble calls and assists other personnel in restoring electric service. Performs other duties as directed. Safety Practices and Training The Intern shall receive instruction in the use of hot line tools, coverup, all grounding devices and practices, and pole top and basket rescue. He/she should wear rubber gloves while working on poles so that he/she can get the feel of working with protective equipment. Electrical Theory The Intern should receive instruction in basic electrical theory, including circuits and grounding connections. Supervision, Training Period and Progression The Intern is under the direct supervision of the Line Foreman or Journeyman Lineman of the crew to which he/she is assigned.
