About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Information Security Intern to support our security team in protecting Grocery Outlet's digital infrastructure and data. This is a hands-on learning opportunity designed for students or recent graduates who want to gain real-world enterprise security experience. You will work alongside experienced security professionals, contributing to meaningful projects while developing practical skills in security operations, incident response, and compliance.

Requirements

  • New Graduate, Rising Senior or Master's Student enrolled in an accredited program as of June 2026.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology.
  • Able to work from the Emeryville office Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Academic or project experience with security concepts, networking or system administration.
  • Foundational understanding of security principles and basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls).
  • Exposure to or interest in learning scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and eagerness to learn in a collaborative team environment.
  • Self motivated with ability to manage time effectively and ask thoughtful questions.
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn about enterprise security operations.
  • Strong analytical mindset and collaborative attitude.
  • Detail oriented with effective communication skills.
  • Adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity in a learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with security monitoring and alert triage, analyzing security events across operating systems, networks, and cloud environments.
  • Support security tool configuration, maintenance, and dashboard creation for ongoing visibility and reporting.
  • Help analyze security alerts by reviewing logs, network traffic and systems events.
  • Participate in vulnerability assessment and assist with remediation tracking.
  • Contribute to security documentation including procedures, configuration standards, and incident response materials.
  • Support our security and infrastructure teams with security-related tickets.
  • Conduct research on emerging threats and security trends, presenting findings to the team.
  • Assist with security awareness initiatives and learn about various enterprise security technologies.
