Summer Intern-Hardware Engineering - Indianapolis, Indiana At Allegion, we help keep people safe and secure where they live, work and visit. With more than 25 brands sold in almost 130 countries across the globe, we specialize in security around the doorway and beyond: everything from residential and commercial locks, door closer and exit devices, steel doors and frames to access control and workforce productivity systems. Allegion provides college students with challenging summer internship assignments and valuable exposure to our company's senior leaders. Through meaningful work projects, our interns are empowered to build diverse skill sets and a strong foundation for a successful and fulfilling career. The core responsibility for the Hardware Engineering intern is to participate with the engineering team and perform tasks as assigned to meet project objectives and departmental goals. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering
  • Sophomore year must be complete by the start of the summer internship program for undergraduate candidates. (If you can only accept incoming seniors for your position, then please change sophomore to junior in this qualification)
  • Minimum 3.0 on 4.0 GPA scale.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative (e.g. school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, etc. or exceptional leadership on school/work projects).
  • Organized
  • Team player
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively
  • Candidate must be a self-motivated problem solver operating with limited supervision to help achieve goals for a global team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with circuit design projects or previous internship experience is preferred.
  • Experience in Python, C, Altium Designer (or similar), Spice, Labworks (or Similar).
  • IoT, SolidWorks (or similar). (preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Actively involved in the engineering design process
  • Help design and evaluate sensors and IoT technologies for new products in development.
  • Help in building and testing prototypes, and analyze test data to assess performance.
  • Learn and apply best practices in PCB design and layout.
  • Participates in design reviews, as assigned
  • Provides written input for project reports, focusing on assigned tasks
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis
  • Works under the immediate supervision of more experienced engineers
  • Receives direct assistance on difficult tasks
