About The Position

About the Internship The Major Capital Projects (MCP) Department is seeking a Summer Intern to support its Finance/Cost Control team. This internship offers hands-on exposure to the financial and analytical functions that support some of the region’s most complex transportation infrastructure projects. Interns will work alongside experienced Port Authority professionals, gaining experience in budgeting, project controls, contract analysis, and financial documentation. This role sits at the center of MCP’s mission to deliver major construction projects effectively and efficiently, offering valuable experience for students interested in finance, public service, or infrastructure.

Requirements

• Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
• Major in Finance, Accounting or related discipline

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet tools
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region
• Interest in public service and/or transportation

Responsibilities

• Review and update project budget documents based on current project information
• Analyze change orders and contract documents
• Analyze contractor and consultant invoices
• Participate in contract close-out processes
• Attend project controls and project management meetings with Port Authority professionals
• Develop improved workflow processes
• Evaluate and review expenditures related to grants and stakeholder agreements
• Conduct ad-hoc reporting and financial analyses
