The Position 2026 Summer Intern - Facilities We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. Department Summary The Genmark facilities engineering department provides essential support for the development of facilities and equipment utilized in manufacturing advanced diagnostic test products designed to detect a wide range of medical conditions. Our portfolio encompasses over 250,000 square feet of manufacturing, Research and Development facilities, and office space. We translate stakeholder requirements into tangible projects, prioritizing cost-effectiveness, minimizing environmental impact, and ensuring a secure work environment. This internship position is located in Carlsbad, On - Site. The Opportunity K-6 Refrigeration Management Program: Lead the implementation of the K-6 Refrigeration Management Program. This involves conducting a comprehensive equipment audit across seven sites for accurate inventory and SAP tracking, enhancing the refrigerant tracking and destruction systems, and developing a process to quantify the environmental impact of refrigerant loss. Electrical Distribution Program: Participate in the Electrical Distribution Program to audit all major electrical panels, verifying exact location and equipment served. This project includes developing a robust preventive maintenance schedule (e.g., Infrared testing, Arc Flash analysis), ensuring availability of appropriate Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) equipment, and assessing potential operational impacts during electrical panel shutdowns. EcoBalance Action Plan Enhancement: Contribute to the EcoBalance Action Plan by performing equipment health assessments to identify and scope high-impact energy efficiency projects. Key outcomes include determining the environmental and financial impact of these projects and developing estimated costs and schedule requirements for implementation. Facilities Equipment Risk Assessments: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for critical facilities equipment to determine the potential impact of failure on manufacturing and R&D operations. Integrate this vital information into the Business Continuity Program to ensure organizational awareness and mitigation of facilities-related risk. Program Highlights Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in May/June (Summer). A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects. Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
  • Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental/Sustainability Engineering.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, collaboration, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Alignment with our corporate culture and adherence to the guiding principles of Integrity, Courage, and Passion in daily conduct and decision-making.
  • Prior experience operating within extensive facilities encompassing intricate mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated capacity to collect substantial quantities of data pertaining to facilities equipment and subsequently organize this information into a professional presentation format.
  • Proficiency in mechanical or electrical principles as applied within commercial or industrial building environments.
