About The Position

Interns work with experts in their fields, gain valuable job experience, and engage in meaningful work. The mission of the Barnes Archives is to identify, preserve, organize, and make available historical records that document the activities of the Barnes Foundation, its collections, and its community, which includes staff, teachers, docents, students, and alums. The internship focuses on the accessibility of digitized archival files and will involve working with Transkribus, an AI-software platform that can perform handwritten text recognition (HTR).

Requirements

  • Eligible interns are either an undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate; preference is given to graduate students.
  • Criminal Background-National_
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.

  • Approximately 80%+ of time is spent seated while working at a desk.
  • Ability to occasionally transport up to 25 lbs. of files, equipment or supplies.
  • Ability to move to access files, equipment or supplies.
  • This position requires extended time on the computer.
  • Clearly communicate in person, by phone, and by video conference.
  • Communicate with others in conversational and written English.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare files for Transkribus system.
  • Review transcriptions for accuracy.
  • Reformat text for integration into files.
  • Work with PDF and Word documents to create accessible files.
