About The Position

As an Acoustic and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Research and Development (R&D) Engineering Intern on our HALOsonic team, you will support HALOsonic Product Development, focusing on sound synthesis and active noise control technologies integrated into automotive audio systems. This role emphasizes hands‑on technical work, including signal processing, simulation, and acoustic measurement. You will collaborate closely with engineering and research team members, taking ownership of defined technical tasks while helping explore and mature features for production and advanced development programs. This internship offers the opportunity to apply advanced engineering concepts to real automotive applications while working alongside experienced engineers in a product‑focused R&D environment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable knowledge and hands‑on experience in Mechanical, Electrical, or Sound Engineering concepts, such as controls, signal processing, acoustics, or mechanical vibrations.
  • Experience using MATLAB or Python to prototype ideas, analyze data, or explore signal‑processing concepts
  • Ability to work independently on defined technical tasks with guidance from experienced engineers
  • Must be currently enrolled in a related Bachelor's Degree program or higher at an accredited institution having completed your Sophomore year or later, taking at least one class in the semester/quarter before participation in the internship program, and returning to school for at least one semester upon completion of the internship program
  • Must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Be willing to work in an office in Novi, Michigan.
  • Able to provide your own housing and transportation to/from work.
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization.

  • Must provide full work availability from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026 and be able to work 40 hours per week

Nice To Haves

  • A passion for audio, acoustics, or vehicle technology, demonstrated through personal projects, research, or hands‑on experimentation
  • Hands‑on experience with professional audio tools, recording workflows, or VST3 plug‑ins—whether through coursework, research, or creative projects
  • Exposure to digital signal processing, active noise control, or audio system modeling concepts

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of focused technical tasks related to automotive sound synthesis and active noise control features, including modeling, simulation, and prototype evaluation
  • Serve as a primary contributor for assigned technical activities, such as test preparation, data analysis, and documentation of results
  • Collaborate with colleagues in product development, systems engineering, and acoustics to ensure technical objectives and project milestones are met
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate prototype noise management concepts using simulation tools, software implementation, and experimental testing

Benefits

  • Flexible work environment, allowing for hybrid work for positions/tasks that can be performed outside a HARMAN location
  • Access to employee discounts on world-class Harman and Samsung products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, etc.)
  • Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University
  • Access to HARMAN Campus Fitness Center and Cafeteria
  • An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development
