About The Position

The Ohio Department of Transportation, District 7, is now accepting applications for Summer Highway Maintenance Workers for the following counties: Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Logan, Preble, Miami, Montgomery, Shelby. These are seasonal temporary positions with an anticipated start date of May 4, 2026 and an end date of September 4, 2026. There are multiple positions, your application will be considered for all positions. 2026 Summer Highway Maintenance Worker or Highway Technician (Multiple Counties) What You Will Do: Flag/traffic control for highway maintenance Drive pickup truck to set out/pick up signs & follow mowing crew Roadside litter pickup, clean &/or wash vehicles & equipment Clean/hose down garage areas Help with sign repair and sign replacements Use weed eater to trim around buildings, fences, etc. Help clean up roadsides when work crews are cutting brush/tree trimming Answer phone &/or radio when clerk is unavailable UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS: May be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes & noise; may be exposed to inclement weather; may work weekends.

Requirements

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division.
In accordance with Section 124.11 (B)(2) of Revised Code, Director of Administrative Services has determined this classification to be unskilled labor class & therefore exempt from written examination.
Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
