About The Position

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, responsibility, respect, and caring.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, current college enrollment or course work in education, recreation, child development, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting.
  • Previous experience in leading youth recreation, group games, sports, arts and crafts, team-building activities in a camp or after school setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to interact effectively with children, parents, and co-workers.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and actively participate in all aspects of camp programming.
  • Must pass background check and meet YMCA child protection standards.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certification, Sexual Harassment, Mandated Reporter, and Child Abuse Prevention training, food handler’s certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire.
  • Ability to plan, lead, and participate in various activities in both indoor and outdoor settings including walking between program locations
  • Must be able to lift to 30 pounds and engage in activities such as running, bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision of an assigned group of children, ensuring their safety, well-being, and active engagement in program activities.
  • Facilitates daily activities that are developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and aligned with the YMCA’s core values and implements program curriculum designed to promote engagement, skill development, and positive youth experiences.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attending staff meetings and training
  • Effectively manages group behavior using positive guidance techniques; redirects inappropriate behavior and reports issues to supervisors when necessary.
  • Assists with set-up, clean-up, and organization of program areas and supplies
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  • Acts as a positive role model by exemplifying YMCA values in all interactions.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff.
  • Safely escorts groups of children between program locations, including walking participants between K1 Church and the YMCA facility while maintaining required supervision ratios.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records and conducts regular head counts during transitions and program activities.
  • Supervises participants during off-site activities and field trips while maintaining required supervision ratios and ensuring participants safety.
  • Reports incidents, injuries, or safety concerns to supervisor in a timely manner and follows YMCA incident reporting procedures.
  • Foster relationships with participants and members.
  • Create accessible pathways for parent input and volunteer involvement.
