OCTA's Summer College Intern Program is a ten-week paid student/intern program. You will gain real world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of transportation professional. You will have the opportunity to use problem solving, communication and decision-making skills as you gain valuable work experience. As a Summer College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA's career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation's many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking. Under direct supervision, students will perform a variety of professional, entry-level duties to obtain practical experience related to their major field of study and interest, and the sponsoring department's current business operations within OCTA and the Transportation Industry. Employment will be full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, for the duration of the ten-week program. An internship in the Regional Modeling/Traffic Operations department offers an opportunity to gain real-world exposure to the dynamic fields of traffic engineering, travel demand modeling, and transportation data analysis. Whether you are pursuing a major in Traffic Engineering, Planning, or another applicable field, this internship welcomes individuals with strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills. Interns can expect to delve into a range of tasks and projects, providing a comprehensive and hands-on experience within the transportation industry and OCTA. This opportunity not only contributes to personal and professional development but also fosters a deeper understanding of the complex and vital role the Regional Modeling/Traffic Operations department plays in shaping the transportation landscape. The pay range is from $19.00 - $22.00 per hour depending on your education level. This position is not eligible for employee benefits. This position will remain open until it is filled.

  • Assist in transportation planning and traffic analysis for regional mobility projects.
  • Work with travel demand models and traffic simulation tools to analyze transportation systems.
  • Utilize real-world data to support decision-making for infrastructure and traffic operations.
  • Conduct research and data analysis on transportation trends, congestion patterns, and mobility solutions.
  • Support the optimization of traffic operations by evaluating traffic flow, signal timing, and roadway capacity.
  • Gain experience with GIS, data analytics, and transportation modeling software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, Cube, TransCAD).
  • College students must be enrolled full-time in a two or four-year college program, at an accredited college or university, and follow a course of study leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Students that graduate with their bachelor's degree from an accredited college in the fall of 2024 or the spring of 2025, are eligible.
  • College students enrolled full-time and pursuing a master's degree from an accredited college.
  • Desirable degree program for this assignment is Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Planning or related discipline.
  • College students pursuing a course of study leading to an undergraduate degree must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better.
  • College students pursuing a course of study leading to a graduate degree must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Must submit most recent college transcript.
