About The Position

We are seeking a co-op student to join ViiV’s Branford CT site to be part of our drug discovery engine to screen, design, optimize and develop next-generation anti-HIV bio-therapeutics for HIV treatment and functional cure. This is a highly unique opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team with top-notch scientists from both ViiV and GSK working in virology, protein engineering, antibody discovery, biochemistry, biophysics, computational biology (including AI/ML for biologics design), cell biology, and in vivo biology and translational studies, as well as external collaborators on cutting-edge technologies such as cell and gene therapy. The selected candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter and will be trained not only in various technologies in biologics drug discovery but also the overall process of how to transform an idea into a candidate molecule ready for clinical trial. The selected candidate is expected to Conduct experiments in the lab and participate in data analysis. Present data and interpretation in program meetings as needed. Present to the ViiV R&D team at the completion of the co-op.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a BS, MS or PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific field.
  • Must be able to work in a BSL2+ environment.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 6 - 12 month co-op (June 2026 ~ June 2027).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.
  • Completion of the assessment is required to proceed in the application process.

Nice To Haves

  • Track record of collaborating in a team-based environment.
  • Attention to detail. Excellent documentation, organization, data analysis and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm and excitement for drug discovery related technologies.
  • Direct experience with molecular biology or virology would be a plus, though not essential.
  • Ideally can work for 6-12 months, but exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments in the lab and participate in data analysis.
  • Present data and interpretation in program meetings as needed.
  • Present to the ViiV R&D team at the completion of the co-op.
